Countdown to Copenhagen

On October 24, people in 181 countries came together to call for climate action. Now we have three weeks left before world leaders meet in Copenhagen to devise a new international climate action plan.

On October 24, people in 181 countries came together to call for immediate climate action. Images from over 5,200 events around the world were woven into a powerful visual petition to world leaders. View images from events in Victoria.

On November 17, the Countdown to Copenhagen rally in Victoria stepped up the momentum for a binding international climate deal.

Another powerful moment happened last week when 11 vulnerable, developing countries made a commitment to carbon neutrality.

"I refuse to believe that it is too late, and that we cannot do any better. Copenhagen is our date with destiny," said President Nasheed of the Maldives, an island nation that will soon disappear into the ocean if climate change continues unchecked.

Together, we've created the momentum - now we must keep pushing. On December 6-18, world leaders will gather in Copenhagen, Denmark, to negotiate a world climate deal. In order to work, this deal must include binding targets for steep and immediate reduction of CO2 emissions.

This is our last chance to prevent global warming from exceeding a catastrophic tipping point.

Write to Prime Minister Harper asking that Canada take the lead and endorse carbon emission targets that ensure the two degree Celsius warming threshold is not crossed.

If you live in Victoria, join the Giant Climate Rally next Tuesday.

Today, in the midst of a busy life as a property manager and entrepreneur, the scent of pine reminds him of his inspiration - the beauty of the Earth and the mysteries of Nature. More ...
