Sierra CERCles

The popular Sierra CERCles - Carbon Emissions Reduction Clubs - are still running despite a funding cut by the Federal Government. Don't let Ottawa politicians interfere with British Columbians' efforts to protect the climate.

When you are caught between a rock and a hard place, it's good to know you have buddies helping you out.

To British Columbians beset by the twin worries of gas prices and global warming, that's exactly what Sierra Club BC offered in the shape of Sierra CERCles – Carbon Emission Reduction Clubs.

Sierra CERCles created a socially safe opportunity for people to talk about the thing that even our Federal Environment Minister John Baird called "the bigest challenge of our generation." They provided a supportive space for people to explore new ways to make their lives comfortable, safe and meaningful, without all the fossil fuels on which we have come to rely.

Until, that is, the federal government decided the CERCles were too much of a good thing and terminated a funding contract for this popular program four months after it was signed, without a word of explanation.

The media speculated about a revengeful act.

Yet the work must go on. Global warming waits for no-one, and we are determined to continue supporting British Columbians in taking collective action to shrink our carbon footprint.

Don't let Ottawa party politics interfere with British Columbians' efforts to mitigate global warming! Please support CERCles with a donation.

They formed the Victoria Chapter of the Sierra Club in Canada and sought to be certified by the US organization. More...
