What is Legacy Giving?
Legacy gifts are simply donations designed to maximise your gift while minimising your tax burden. They include bequests and gifts of securities.
What You Need to Know
With a simple phone call to (250) 386-5255 Ext. 237 or an email, we can make suggestions to help you to decide which type of legacy gift is appropriate for you. Alternatively, you can download our Bequests and Gifts of Securities Factsheet here (or ask us to mail it to you). The Factsheet contains sample wording you can use in your will, and the form needed to make a donation of securities. Why Make a Legacy Gift?
In more than 40 years Sierra Club of BC Foundation has made incredible achievements in protecting BC’s natural areas, including some of our most important old growth forests. But global warming, oil and gas development, poorly planned hydro dams, mining and logging continue to threaten BC’s unique and diverse ecosystems.
Legacy gifts enable Sierra Club of BC Foundation to react quickly to these threats when they arise. We speak from the grassroots, conduct ground-breaking environmental research, educate young and old on important issues and passionately advocate for the wild spaces and species that make our home a global treasure.
Planning Your Legacy Includes:

Making a bequest for a specific sum or a portion of your estate in your will which will qualify as a charitable tax credit in the final tax return.

Donating assets, such as shares of securities, bonds, or mutual funds.

Naming Sierra Club of BC Foundation as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or an RRSP. The payments you make may be tax-deductible.

It would assist us tremendously in our own planning and in working with your executor to get your estate in order. If you wish, please send us a copy of your will or insurance policy that pertains to your gift. We promise to respect your privacy.
