Siberian Yarrow

Achillea sibirica

Appearance

Siberian Yarrow has toothed leaves and flat-topped clusters of white flowers on long stems.

Range & Habitat

It is found from the northeast corner of BC, up through the Yukon and Alaska. Yarrow likes to grow near lakeshores, meadows and in other open areas.

Life Cycle

The flowers age into small brown seeds, which spread into new areas on the wind.

Animal Uses

Few animals graze on yarrow because it has a bitter taste.

Traditional First Nations Uses

Crushes roots were used to stop toothaches, and bath water with yarrow in it was used to heal aches and pains.

Modern Uses

Many healers still use yarrow to help aches and pains, and it is one of the most popular herbal remedies in the world.
