We have been so impressed and inspired by the achievements of schools that we have visited. We'd love to share them with you!

2008-2009 Action Challenge Highlights
|
Sir Richard McBride Elementary, David Murphy Grade 6/7 class. 29 students. |
Mr Murphy's class joined us for a ClimateChange program this year. His students were very excited to work on an Action Challenge after our visit but couldn't decide on one so they did three! Here's what they got up to: 1. They made beautiful cloth re-usable bags made from old clothing. 2. They made their own lip balm! Bee's wax, olive oil and a hint of orange. 3. They have set up siz classroom composts and they are using the diluted compost tea to feed the plants in their school! Way to go McBride! |
| Ecole Quadra Elementary, Jeanette Dibiase, Grade 2/3 class. 17 students. |
Madame Dibiase's class joined us for the Green Star! program. With the help of a parent in their classroom they have been recycling soft plastics and foil wraps from their lunches. Thay have been doing this since October and have reduced their garbage dramatically! They are very proud of their success and efforts! |
| Strawberry Vale, Kathy Mead, Grade 2. 23 students. |
Mrs Mead's class joined us for the Journey Through the Rainforest program. They chose composting for their challenge. Students are responsible for the feeding the worms once a week with fruit and veg scraps from their lunches. They are using some of the compost to plant some snow pea seeds, and the rest of it will be used to plant a garden outside their classroom with the help of their big buddy class! Hopefully the students will take home what they've learned in the classroom and teach their parents how to compost at home. |
| Strawberry Vale, Susanna Solecki's grade 1 class. 18 students. |
Ms Solecki's class have been working on reducing their garbage by composting, packing garbage free lunches, recycling paper and now they have started recycling their plastics too! These are some amazing accomplishments! |
| Maria Montessori, Marilyn Triste's grades 1-3 class. 18 students. |
The Alpha class of Maria Montessori Academy chose to produce booklets on native flowers and plants made out of recycled paper. The childen used these booklets as a guide to identifying native plants and flowers on Mt Tolmie where they went for a field trip! They used foot power on this field trip to save on gasoline and Co2 emissions. A very inspiring Action Challenge! |
