In recent years debate has heightened regarding hatcheries and their effect on freshwater, estuarine and marine ecosystems. Indeed a number of reviews highlight a critical gap in our understanding of the ecological relationships between wild and hatchery salmon. Gathering to share knowledge and experiences across regions, ecosystems and disciplines is essential to containing and managing risks from hatchery programs.

Broad representation from across the North Pacific is expected, including key representatives from Japan, Russia, the United States and Canada. Participants are to include scientists, fishery and hatchery managers, conservation organizations, indigenous groups, industry representatives and decision makers.

For those interested, there will also be optional local tours available on Saturday, May 8th.  However, they are capped and sign-up is upon conference registration.
