The Flathead: What You Can Do

Describes the steps people can take to protect the Flathead River Valley.

Easy steps you can take to protect the Flathead

1. Phone Premier Gordon Campbell and ask him to agree to permanent protection for the Flathead River Valley-- a National Park in the south eastern one-third of the valley and a Wildlife Management Area in the rest of the valley and adjoining habitat. Call 250-387-1715 and leave a brief message with the Premier's office.

2. Follow up your phone call with a letter to Premier Campbell, Box 9041, Station Prov Gov, Victoria, BC, V8W 9E1. Feel free to use the information on this website in your letter. Please send a copy of your letter to Sierra Club BC, 302-733 Johnson St, Victoria, BC, V8W 3C5.

Ask your friends, family, colleagues, neighbours and anyone else you know to make phone calls and write letters!

3. Take 20 seconds and sign up to become a Friend of the Flathead. Ask your friends, family and colleagues to sign up as well.

4. Organize a showing of the Flathead multimedia presentation in your community. Contact us at flathead@sierraclub.bc.ca to arrange a showing and Sierra Club BC speaker.

5. Download our Flathead paper petition, print out copies, and circulate it in your community. Then mail the petitions to us at Sierra Club BC, 302-733 Johnson St, Victoria BC, V8W 3C5.

6. Download our Flathead fact sheet and print it out (in colour is best). Ask your local businesses and community centres to carry it, along with the petitions.

7. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper about the Flathead and the urgent need to protect it permanently.

8. Make a donation to our Flathead River Valley campaign. Every dollar counts!

Artist Katy Madsen comes from a long line of rabble-rousers and, as she says, has a reputation for “action”. When Katy was 11 years old she took her first hike on Loma Prieta, scouting out a trail for the group's first outing. That first hike sparked a passion for the environment that was to define her life. More...
