Discussion on climate change is usually framed as pitting caring about the environment versus quality of life. The two concepts cannot be separated.
 
Today Port Clements will join all other Haida Gwaii municipalities and sign a declaration calling for a ban on coastal tanker traffic.The decision by Port Clements’ council to add its voice to growing calls for a ban means that all of Haida Gwaii--including the Haida Nation as well as the municipalities of Masset, Old Masset, Skidegate, Sandspit, and Queen Charlotte – is united in opposition to coastal tanker traffic.
Sierra Malaspina member Mary Tilberg discovers two heron nests, stopping the logging of a Powell River city park for a running track. Now the city is reconsidering a new location for the track.
Bravo to the Sierra Club of the Comox Valley for taking their case against the development of a gas station and mini-storage facility at 3080 Comox Road (on the estuary), to an appeals court after a ruling by a judge in favour of the developer.
For the Sierra Club Comox Valley — originally the Courtenay River Estuary Action Committee — it’s a hiccup in their overall effort to protect the area’s environment.
The fate of the legal challenge to a controversial gas station on Comox Road will be heard June 14, 2010 in Vancouver.
