We raised the roof Wednesday night!

Over a thousand people raised the roof at the Countdown to Copenhagen event last night with singing, cheering - and, yes, booing the climate obstructionists. Especially powerful were the voices of BC's youth delegation to Copenhagen, led by Sierra Club BC's very own Jamie Biggar (chair of the Board) and Tria Donaldston (Board member). Youth are the ones who will inherit the mess caused by the oil-and-coal generations and last night they showed powerful and articulate leadership.

Countdown to Copenhagen

We heard presentations by Canada’s foremost Climate Leaders:

Elizabeth May – Co-author of Global Warming for Dummies, former Executive Director of the Sierra Club of Canada, and current Green Party of Canada Leader

Dr. Andrew Weaver – Author of Keeping our Cool, Professor at the UVic School of Earth and Ocean Sciences, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) member Nobel Laureate winner

Guy Dauncey – Author of The Climate Challenge: 101 Solutions to Global Warming, President of the BC Sustainable Energy Association

Jamie Biggar (Sierra Club BC and Common Energy), Tria Donaldson (Sierra Club BC and Powershift), and Maia Green (Youth Delegation coordinator) - Canadian Youth Delegation to Copenhagen

On December 6-18, world leaders will gather in Copenhagen, Denmark, to negotiate a world climate deal. In order to work, this deal must include binding targets for steep and immediate reduction of CO2 emissions.

This is our last chance to prevent global warming from exceeding a catastrophic tipping point. Take action now.

Event organized by the Green Climate Committee - a coalition of BC environmental groups.
