Celina O'Connor
Célina was born and
raised primarily on the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. She credits her
environmental sensibilities to the time she spent as a child exploring the
outdoor spaces of BC and to her mother who brought her to her first
environmental protests during her toddler and elementary school days. Célina moved
to Victoria in 2007 after having spent the previous
five years in Montreal where she earned Bachelor of Arts in Cultural
Anthropology and International Development Studies from McGill University. In the summer after graduation Célina worked
as an Historical Interpretation and Eco-tourism Coordinator in a remote fishing
village in Northern
Quebec where her
work focused on developing environmentally sustainable and culturally
appropriate alternatives to the cod fishing industry.
Célina’s current work at the Sierra Club focuses on increasing the scope and depth of the organization’s community engagement. She plans community outreach events, manages the Enviro911 program, and coordinates Sierra Club BC’s volunteer program.
In her spare time Célina likes to play guitar, go camping, ride her one-speed bike around town, snowboard, garden, and eat good food with friends. She also loves to dance and is currently learning how to crochet.
