Helena Mahoney Bio

Helena has been exploring Vancouver Island since she was five years old and sporting pigtails. Growing up in Campbell River provided ample opportunity to discover nature locally, and to explore the surrounding communities.

She first ventured into Victoria to attend UVic, where she completed a BSc in Psychology and Environmental Studies. Outside the classroom, Helena was involved with youth programs at Oak Bay Recreation Centre. After university, she spent several years tree planting throughout British Columbia, where she experienced first hand the importance of natural resource management. She also took some time to explore the world, traveling to New Zealand and France, and then across the country to the Maritimes. She returned to Victoria to pursue her interest in sustainability initiatives, and spent some time with the Dogwood Initiative as the Outreach and Communications Assistant.

Helena has now found her niche with the Sierra Club Education Team, where she is able to bring her knowledge of conservation and love for environment into classrooms around British Columbia.
