Lisa Matthaus Bio

lisaLisa Matthaus is the Campaigns Director for the Sierra Club of Canada’s BC Chapter, overseeing the strategic development and implementation of all of the BC Chapter’s conservation campaigns. Lisa joined the BC Chapter in 1998 and has taken lead roles for the Chapter in several forestry-related initiatives, particularly those related to logging subsidies, forest certification, forest community transition and related forest policy reform. Since 2002 she has led the Chapter’s involvement in the initiative to develop a new model of conservation for the Great Bear Rainforest. More recently, Lisa has been developing the BC Chapter’s climate change campaign. She has gained extensive experience with media and government in these roles.

Before joining the Sierra Club in March 1998, Lisa earned her Masters degree in Environmental and Resource Economics from University College London (London, UK) in 1995. Prior to that, Lisa spent seven years working as an investment banking credit analyst in Toronto and London. She has an undergraduate degree in commerce/finance, and was raised in a resource-based community in coastal BC.

As an environmental economist, Lisa’s passion for this work comes from a desire to apply real, on-the-ground solutions that allow people to live within the limits of our ecosystems – where economics and ecology meet.

Lisa is currently travelling through India.
