Susan Howatt Bio
Susan Howatt is Sierra Club BC’s Campaigns Director. Susan has a strong background in advocacy on water issues. As the national water campaigner for the Council of Canadians (2005-2008), her work focused on the need for a national water policy and endorsement of water as a human right. She successfully promoted water as a commons through speaking tours, national days of action and other strategic public events, mobilizing a strong and visible public response on issues such as bulk water exports, bottled water and Canada’s obstruction of the UN process to declare water a human right.
Susan was the international human rights campaigner with the Indonesian Mining Advocacy Network, a network that works with communities impacted by the mining industry. She has also served as a human rights observer in Chiapas, Mexico. Susan has worked extensively on environmental education, urban poverty, and human rights issues.
