Dorothy Cutting

Dorothy Cutting is a grandma with a difference. At an age when most people are sitting back in the rocking chairs and baking cookies, she has devoted her 70s to raising awareness about global warming.

Dorothy's life changed after reading Robert Hunter's book, "2030: Confronting Thermageddon in Our Lifetime". She realised that the threat of climate change was real and serious and felt she simply had to do something about it.

Her latest project is a climate website. Dorothy believes given accurate, understandable information on the threat that global warming poses, people will take action in time to prevent disaster.

Dorothy researches and posts news stories and studies about climate change on her website, usually for hours a day. She says that, as she gets older, her body aches when she spends long hours at her computer, but that doesn’t stop her. Her website is used as a resource by thousands of people around the world.

Dorothy is well known within the community of global warming scientists and environmentalists, from NASA's James Hansen to BC Sustainable Energy Association's Guy Dauncey. Many of them have agreed to be on Dorothy's Advisory Board out of respect for this charming, persistent and intelligent woman.

None of Dorothy's work is paid, but she still gives generously to environmental organisations that she feels are making a difference to climate change.

"I am helped in my efforts by the Sierra Club of Canada and the BC Chapter, who as always are ahead of other environmental organizations in recognizing that we are on the edge of a crisis, and then doing something about it," says Dorothy.

Dorothy has devoted the remainder of her life to stopping global warming. Why? Because, as she says, "The human race is worth saving because of our extraordinary intelligence and love of beauty. We are unique."
