Jacques Morin
Jacques Morin joined the Sierra Club back in the 1990s, when he and a group of friends were concerned about the proposed intense logging on the Queen Charlotte Islands.
"The Sierra Club has quite a reputation in the community as an agent of change at the provincial level, especially after their success with the protection of the Guai Hanaas Park," says Jacques. "We were also impressed with the tools and support they make available to grassroots groups."
Jacques and his friends decided to set up their own local group in the Haida Gwaii. They have been successfully working on a number of local issues, including most recently the protection of the threatened Northern Goshawk.
With a background as a wildlife biologist, Jacques also works as an energy advisor, providing energy efficiency and renewable solutions advice to homeowners under the federal government's Eco-Energy Program. Jacques and his wife Sandra live in a self-sufficient solar home on Queen Charlotte Island.
