What You Can Do
Use the SeaChoice card when you shop or dine, let the BC and federal governments know that you strongly support continuing the moratoria on both inland tanker traffic and offshore oil and gas development and ask the federal government to designate adequate funding to implement Canada's Oceans Strategy.
Steps You Can Take to Protect Our Ocean and Marine Life
1. Ask the provincial government to set aside sufficient funding in the next budget to proactively engage with the federal government in an integrated marine planning process for BC's North Coast ocean.
2. Support sustainable fisheries by using SeaChoice seafood and sushi cards when you shop or dine. Download "Canada's Seafood Guide" and the Sustainable Sushi Guide and carry them in your wallet. For more detailed information about sustainable fisheries, browse SeaChoice Canada.
3. Let the BC and federal governments know you strongly support continuing the long-standing moratoria on both inland tanker traffic and offshore oil and gas development.
4. Ask the federal government to initiate an integrated marine planning process for BC's North Coast ocean. Letters and emails to your MLAs, MPs and federal fisheries department reminding them of the importance of ecosystem-based marine planning have significant influence, especially at federal budget time.
5. Support the Sierra Club BC's marine conservation work with a targeted donation. Our greatest need at present is to expand our capacity to review and track the influences of global warming on marine planning to ensure the planning process accommodates these rapidly changing influences.
