Stop the “New Prosperity” Mine at Fish Lake
Send a letter to Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq and to the Canadian Government urging them to reject the New Prosperity Mine at Fish Lake.
If approved, the “New Prosperity” project would surround Fish Lake with a massive open pit mine, closing it to fishing for up to 33 years. Fish Lake, sacred to the Tsilhqot’in First Nations, is home to over 80,000 rainbow trout. The project would destroy Little Fish Lake, another important trout habitat, turning it into a toxic tailings pond.
Please urge Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq to heed the findings of the CEAA environmental review and reject the “New Prosperity” mine. Please also ask the federal government to close the legislative loophole in the Fisheries Act allowing mining companies to dump toxic tailings into fish-bearing lakes.
