Tell the Prime Minister to Protect the Pacific Ocean

After working for almost a decade to develop a plan for B.C.’s North Coast and ocean, the federal government pulled out from an agreement which would have funded the plan through completion in December 2012, excluding the voices of citizens and communities and making it easier to rubber-stamp destructive projects.

After working for almost a decade to develop a plan for B.C.’s North Coast and ocean, in September the federal government pulled out from an agreement which would have funded the plan through completion in December 2012. By pulling the plug on the planning table for the North Coast ocean, the federal government is excluding the voices of citizens and communities and making it easier to rubber-stamp destructive project like the Enbridge pipeline and tanker traffic along the coast.

The prosperity and well-being of coastal communities are dependent on a healthy ocean. Yes, oceans are in trouble around the world, but our corner of the Pacific is still fertile and productive. We must protect what we have – B.C.’s salmon runs, marine mammals, magical underwater gardens of carbon-fixing eelgrass, and the thriving shellfish industry in our bays and estuaries.

We must protect our coast and ocean before it's too late. Take action. Write to Prime Minister Harper and Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and ask them to return the decision-making power where it belongs –to the people who live and work on the coast. Ask them to reinstate funding for the Pacific North Coast marine planning initiative so that we can establish a truly sustainable future for our oceans.

Your letter will be sent to the following people:
  • Minister Keith Ashfield (Minister of Fisheries and Oceans)
  • Prime Minister Stephen Harper (Prime Minister of Canada)
A salutation and signature will be added automatically.
Sincerely,

Have Your Say on the Proposed Site C Dam

the proposed Site C dam would be the third hydroelectric dam on the Peace River in northeastern British Columbia. The $8 billion taxpayer-funded project would flood 5,200 hectares of fertile agricultural land as well as destroying 4,900 hectares of boreal forest in order to provide power for the oil and gas industry. Take action.
